Final Project Proposals
Today’s class lasts from 1:30 to 3:20. Approximately 120 minutes. We can budget approximately 10 minutes per proposal (with 2-minutes set-up between).
Please try to present swiftly to allow for valuable reactions, discussions, and questions.
*Polonius:* My liege, and madam, to expostulate What majesty should be, what duty is, What day is day, night night, and time is time, Where nothing to waste night, day, and time. Therefore, since brevity is the soul of wit, And tediousness the limbs and outward flourish, I will be brief. Your noble son is mad. Mad I call it; for to define true madness, What is't but to be nothing else but mad? But let that go. </pre>
*Queen Gertrude:* More matter, with less art. </pre>
Pertinent Questions… You’ll need to eventually answer these…
[a1] What parts of you project involve quantitative analysis? How do you measure those parts?
[a2] What parts of you project involve qualitative analysis? How will the sketch feedback help evaluate those parts?
[b1] What input does your final project need. (Database, sensor, and/or human…)
[b2] What output do you expect the project to create? (Does it have enough input to supply that?)
[b3] Remember that data models are destiny… Which organizations is best for your program? (What elements are represented as Unique Variables, Several Classes, All Arrays, Several Arrays of Classes…)
[c1] Does the system you propose mirror, or have an analogue to, any existing system in found in practice or in found in nature?
[c2] How do the ways that others have modeled [c1]’s existing systems inform your work?
The Final Project Outline
The answers to the above questions will greatly aid in gathering data for the Final Project Outline. Please read that document today.
Assignment: First Draft of the Final Project Outline
Reformat (roughly) your presentations to answer the last few questions. This reformatting should serve as your first draft of your project outline.
Turn this in two ways. 1 Email your revised presentations (Draft outline) by next class. Format as a PDF, but do not waste time on aesthetic formatting. 2 Also, place in your homework folder. Remember: just the facts, please.
Also, Start coding a draft of your Final Project Processing sketch. Start small. Get one basic function working. Or implement a class. Don’t be a hero; starting with everything will leave you stranded.
